The XIAO ePaper Display Board EE05 is the refreshed, slimmer sibling of the EE04: the same XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus (8 MB of PSRAM), a 24-pin panel connector, three side-mounted keys, a battery connector with a hardware power switch, and an extension header for sensors. It's the board in the TRMNL 4.26" DIY Kit, and Seeed also sells it on its own or as the XIAO ePaper DIY Kit.

FrameOS runs the full on-device renderer on it.

Setup

  1. In the FrameOS backend or FrameOS Cloud, create a frame with Flash embedded device and choose ESP32-S3.
  2. With the 4.26" panel, select the TRMNL 4.26" DIY Kit preset and you're done. With another panel, select the preset first for the pins, then pick your panel - the form switches to a custom board but keeps them. Seeed's panels usually share their controllers with Waveshare's: pick the driver with the same size, resolution and colors in the device database.
  3. Flash it over USB from the browser, then install scenes as usual.

Buttons and battery

The keys are on GPIO 2, 3 and 5. The 4.26" preset registers GPIO 2 (plus BOOT); add the others under GPIO buttons in the frame's settings. The battery is read through a 2:1 divider on GPIO 1, switched on by GPIO 6 - the 4.26" preset carries that wiring, and on a custom board you enter the three values under Power.
